How to Reduce Your Exposure to Germs

Germs are found everywhere, and while not all germs are going to be something you need to worry about, others make you sick and cause infections. You also risk passing these germs onto others, putting their health at risk. This is why it is important to take steps to reduce your exposure to germs. Below are some basic tips to help you reduce your chances of getting ill on a regular basis.

Keep Up with Personal Hygiene

This is a great way to reduce passing on germs and catching them as well. Personal hygiene is essential for self-care, and when you stop putting in the effort,  it can make you feel uncomfortable and miserable. Washing regularly helps you stay healthy, and you should always wash your hands after using the bathroom and before and after meal preparation. A good oral health routine is also important, as this is one of the main areas where germs thrive. Brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing, using mouthwash  and sprays for oral germ defense are all excellent ways to keep the bacteria in your mouth under control.

Carry Hand Sanitiser

Even before the pandemic, people were aware of the benefits of hand sanitizer to help reduce the spread of germs. Carrying a small travel bottle of hand sanitizer in your bag means that you are able to use it wherever necessary. For example, if you’re using public transport, you might like to sanitize your hand after touching other surfaces. You never know what germs others have or how hygienic they are, so this helps with giving you peace of mind. 

Throw Your Tissues in the Bin

Whenever you use a tissue, always make sure to throw it in the bin. Putting used tissues down on your desk or a side table will only heighten the risk of germs spreading, and it is also off-putting for others in your environment.

Use an Antibacterial Cleaning Product at Home

Keeping your home clean is not just about a better aesthetic and relaxing living space, but also about helping prevent creating the ideal environment for pests and bacteria to thrive. Areas like your kitchen and bathroom, in particular, are hotspots for picking up germs due to the activities that happen in these rooms. Make sure you are using antibacterial cleaning products in these areas to remove the majority of bacteria and germs, and create a sterile space.

Don’t Get Too Close to Those Who Are Sick

If a work colleague or friend mentions that they are starting to fill ill, or have a cold, avoid getting too close to them until they get well. You will be putting yourself at a higher risk of catching their germs if you do. Try to keep some distance, and perhaps even open a window in the office or environment that you’re in to keep the fresh air circulating.
