Changing the Background image:-
If you want your favorite photo to be set as the background photo so that you can see it every time while you open your Windows, all you need to do is follow these few steps below;
- Go to Settings.
- Click on “Personalization.”
- Click on “Lock screen.”
- Change the ‘Background’ option to either “Picture” or “Slideshow” to your choice.
- Now chose what photo or album you want as your background image or slideshow
- Now come down and click on “Show Lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen” option.
- If you want your display to have a solid color instead of an image, you can slide the bar to “ON.”
- Now close the Settings app.
Setting the screen timeout:-
In case an emergency comes up, and you go without turning off your device, and when you come back, all your battery will be drained. In order to prevent this, you can set up the screen timeout, which will automatically turn your device off after the specific time you have given provided you are not using it. Follow these steps to set a screen timeout.
- Go to settings.
- Click on Personalization.
- Then choose Lock screen.
- Click on the ‘Screen timeout settings’ option.
- Now use the ‘Screen’ drop-down menu and mention when the device should turn off if you are not using.
- Close the Settings app.

The Lock screen can also show notifications while you turn ON Windows. You can set it in such a way that it shows quick notifications or detailed notifications. In order to do so, follow through these steps.
- Go to Settings.
- Click on Personalization.
- Click on the Lock screen.
- Now click on “Choose an app to show detailed status”.
- Tap on the plus (+) to select the app that you want to see detailed notifications.
- If you tap on “None,” the notifications will be disabled.
- The notifications will be seen in the bottom-left corner of the lock screen.
- Close the Settings app.
Adding Cortana to the lock screen:-
The personal assistant of Windows 10, Cortana. You can converse with Cortana, like asking about the weather, asking about your appointments and meetings, etc. without unlocking your device. In order to do so, you need to first add it to the lock screen. For that, just follow the steps below.
- Go to Settings.
- Click on Cortana.
- Tap on “Use Cortana even when my device is locked” and enable it.
Be careful when you give permissions for Cortana to your personal information like contacts, calendar, etc. because it is easier to get information from Cortana for the snoopers.
Add your preferred apps:-
If you want the lock screen to be more functional, you can add apps like Weather, Skype, Mail, Xbox, etc. which will give a quick glance at the status of that app. You can add up to eight apps where seven can show quick status while one can show detailed status. To do so, follow these steps;
- Go to settings.
- Click on Personalization.
- Click on the Lock screen.
- Tap on “Choose an app to show detailed status” and select that one app you want to see detailed information.
- Next, tap on “Choose apps to show quick statuses” and select up to seven apps that you want to be added on the lock screen.
- If you do not want any apps to be shown, click on each box and set the app to “None.”
- Close the Settings app.
Removing the Ads:-
While opening Windows 10, you might come across ads like ads of apps or movies available to download from the Windows Store. If you have set a picture or slideshow as your background, you will be able to disable these ads. Follow these steps to remove the ads from the lock screen.
- Go to Settings.
- Click on Personalization.
- Select the Lock screen.
- Make sure the background is set to “Picture” or “Slideshow”.
- Now tap on the slider “Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more from Windows and Cortana on your lock screen” and disable it.
- Close the Settings app.
